Texas Trusty Who Fled Captured in Plainview

A trusty who fled a work detail at a Texas Department of Criminal Justice regional office in Plainview has been captured about two miles away.

TDCJ spokesman Jason Clark said Charlie Davis Jr. was arrested Thursday morning after knocking on the back door of a residence.

The homeowner called 911. Plainview police arrested Davis, who's from the area.

Clark had no information about whether the resident knows Davis, who turned up missing Monday during janitor duty.

Davis in June began a two-year term at the Wheeler State Jail in Plainview for a theft conviction in Swisher County. He was eligible for trusty status because the offense was non-violent and he had a short prison term.

A trusty is a prisoner given special privileges in return for good behavoir.

Davis now faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of felony escape.
