Texas Troopers to Increase Patrols During Labor Day Weekend

Texas troopers will increase patrols over the Labor Day holiday weekend to crack down on drunken drivers and other traffic violators.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the enhanced enforcement period begins Friday and runs through Labor Day next Monday.

DPS announced that troopers, during last year's Labor Day holiday weekend, made 488 DWI arrests and issued 8,515 speeding citations. Troopers also issued 1,091 seat belt/child safety seat citations and 1,062 citations for drivers not having insurance.

Texas troopers also made 278 fugitive arrests and 224 felony arrests.

DPS Director Steven McCraw on Monday urged drivers to obey traffic laws and find other transportation if they plan to drink alcohol.
