Texas Traffic Stop Leads to $97K in Vacuum-Sealed Bag

A traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle has led to a driver charged with money laundering after $97,000 was found in a vacuum-sealed bag in the trunk.

The Department of Public Safety on Thursday said investigators believe the cash was being hauled from Cary, North Carolina, to San Francisco.

A Texas trooper on Tuesday stopped a westbound car on Interstate 40 in Carson County for a suspected traffic violation. Authorities didn't immediately provide additional information about what prompted the search or the apparent source of the confiscated money.

The driver was identified as Rodrigo Gomes Queiroz of Miami Beach, Florida.

Carson County jail records show the suspect was being held Thursday without bond pending arraignment. Jail records do not list a defense attorney to comment on the case.
