Texas regulators have fined the operators of a closed Dallas-area battery recycling plant nearly $2.5 million for environmental violations.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Wednesday cited Exide Technologies.
The company's plant in Frisco, about 20 miles north of Dallas, shut down in November 2012 amid disputes over lead emissions and ground contamination.
Authorities have said Exide came under scrutiny for exceeding government air-quality emissions. A TCEQ statement says the fine was for waste violations investigated in 2013.
The TCEQ fine faces approval by a bankruptcy judge overseeing Exide's Chapter 11 reorganization case.
A message left with Exide for comment was not immediately returned Thursday.
