Texas Records 4th Death This Year Linked to West Nile Virus

Health officials say a fourth person has died in Texas this year after contracting the West Nile virus.

The El Paso Department of Health on Thursday announced the death of an 89-year-old man, but did not release his name or say when he died. Authorities say the elderly victim had several underlying medical conditions.

City officials in Dallas on Tuesday announced the West Nile-related death of a resident.

Tarrant County reported a West Nile-related death on Aug. 8. Kleberg County in South Texas reported a death last month that also was confirmed to be West Nile-related.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says the state last year had 379 human cases of West Nile virus, including six deaths.
