The observances are part of National Police Week.

On Tuesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety will honor all Texas law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in the past year. State Sen. John Whitmire, a Houston Democrat and the Senate's Criminal Justice Committee chairman, is scheduled to speak.

Also Tuesday, San Antonio will honor 53 Alamo City police officers who have died in the line of duty dating to 1857.
