Texas Parks and Wildlife Set for Winter Trout Stocking

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is preparing for its annual winter rainbow trout stocking at sites across the state.

The TPWD plans to stock nearly 300,000 hatchery-reared rainbow trout at community fishing lakes, state park lakes and popular river trail sites as part of a program that began in the 1970s, according to the department.

The stocking begins in late November and runs through March.

Trout are stocked in the winter due to the cooler water temperatures the fish need to survive.

A valid freshwater fishing license is required of all anglers ages 17 and older, and there is a fish-fish daily bag limit.
