Texas Musician Killed in Burglary Attempt

Bill Leslie Maddox is famously known for working with Eric Johsnon.

Authorities say Bill Leslie Maddox, a drummer who teamed up with musician Eric Johnson in the 1970s, was shot dead in southwestern Travis County during a burglary attempt.

Travis County sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade says deputies were called to the Maddox home Monday morning for a burglary in progress. He says during the burglary attempt, Maddox and the burglary suspect struggled and both were shot. Deputies found 54-year-old Maddox dead and the suspect, a 63-year-old man who has not been charged, was taken to the hospital.

Authorities say Maddox's wife was home at the time but was not hurt.

Wade tells the Austin American-Statesman, "We are still investigating and trying to figure out what happened."
