Texas Memorial Set for Victim in Colorado Shooting

Service to be held Saturday in San Antonio

The brother of one of 12 people killed in a shooting rampage at a movie theater in Colorado says the family will have a memorial service for her in Texas.

The service for 24-year-old Jessica Ghawi will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Community Bible Church in San Antonio, according to her brother Jordan, who has been faithfully blogging about his sister, as well as other victims, since first hearing about the shooting Friday.

According to Jordan, Jessica will be cremated in Denver before her remains are flown back to Texas.

Jessica lived in San Antonio most of her life before moving to the Denver area to pursue a career in sports broadcasting. An avid social media user, she blogged about escaping a recent shooting in Toronto at the Eaton Centre shopping center.

In that post, Jessica said the experience gave her a newfound respect for life and the time we are all given.

I say all the time that every moment we have to live our life is a blessing. So often I have found myself taking it for granted. Every hug from a family member. Every laugh we share with friends. Even the times of solitude are all blessings. Every second of every day is a gift. After Saturday evening, I know I truly understand how blessed I am for each second I am given.

A former boss said Ghawi was an intern at a radio station in San Antonio before changing her name to Redfield because she thought it would be easier to pronounce.

Two other native Texans, 52-year-old Gordon Cowden and 32-year-old Rebecca Wingo, also died in the massacre.
