Texas Man Gets Life Term for Killing 2 Women, 1 Decapitated

Prosecutors say a Central Texas man must serve life in prison for killing his girlfriend and another woman in separate attacks in which one victim was decapitated using a machete.

Danny Carlos Diaz was sentenced Wednesday in Bryan after pleading guilty to murder, in a plea deal. Investigators say both slayings happened within a 12-hour period in May 2015.

Prosecutor Brian Baker says the 31-year-old Diaz, of Bryan, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and depression.

Investigators say Diaz killed his girlfriend, 30-year-old Vanessa Gonzales, and a friend, 26-year-old Ashley Garcia. The bodies were found on opposite ends of Brazos County.

Authorities believe Gonzales was run over by her own vehicle. Garcia was later found decapitated in a dumpster.

Diaz won't be eligible for parole for 60 years.
