Texas Lottery Wants to Set Star Trek Costume Record

Beam Me Up, Lottery

Scratch-offs, the final frontier.

The Texas Lottery is planning an out-of-this world start for their new "Star Trek" scratch-off lottery tickets.

Kirk himself -- William Shatner, not Chris Pine -- will captain a crew of over 1,040 uniformed Trekkies on March 30 in Dallas.

Why is that specific number of costumed fans important? Because the Prime Directive of this promotion is to get in the Guinness Book of World Records for "the most people in Star Trek costumes at one event."

The event will be at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Convention Center and admission is free -- as long as you're costumed as a full, head-to-toe representation of a character from official Star Trek canon. (Which means our Captain Greg Janda of the U.S.S. NBCDFW.com costume won't be appropriate.)

Beyond breaking the record, attendees will have chances to win some of the Star Trek scratch-offs, Texas Lottery merchandise, $50,000 in cash, or a Star Trek convention trip package.
