Texas Issues 1,000 Same-Sex Marriage Licenses Since Supreme Court Ruling

Nearly 1,000 same-sex couples in Texas have received marriage licenses in Texas since the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling on equality in June allowed same-sex couples in all states to get married.

The estimated number was provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services and represents 4 percent of all marriage licenses issued in the state since same-sex marriage became legal.

The number is an estimate because all marriage licenses in the state are now filed the same way, listed as "spouse" and "spouse" without any gender identifier.

Employees have been currently keeping track individually, but that isn't expected to continue.
