Texas Hunter Fined for Wasting Moose Meat

A Texas man who killed a moose but left much of the meat to rot has been fined $2,000 by an Alaskan court.

Donald Lamont of Springtown entered a guilty plea Wednesday in Aniak District Court to charges of failure to salvage all edible meat and transport of moose antlers from a kill site before all meat had been salvaged.

He forfeited the antlers and faces two years of probation.

A wildlife trooper patrolling from the air in September saw Lamont and a companion rafting the south fork of the Kuskokwim River with antlers and game bags.

Troopers at the kill site discovered that meat had not been removed from the moose neck, ribs, inner loins and lower legs. The moose had not even been gutted.

Lamont was fined $4,500 with $2,500 suspended.
