Texas Firefighters Save Family after Boat Flips

Five children and two adults have been rescued after their boat capsized off the Galveston Bay and firefighters swam out to save them.

The Galveston County Daily News reported the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department was called out on Wednesday after the U.S. Coast Guard was unable to respond. Assistant Chief Scott Lyons said four firefighters swam about 200 yards into the water to rescue the children, who are between 2 and 9 years old.

The 2-year-old wasn't breathing after she was taken ashore and firefighters administered CPR. She began breathing and was taken to an area hospital. Her condition is unclear.

No other injuries were reported.

Lyons said the family was trying to travel to Kemah when a cold front blew in and flipped the sailboat.
