Texas Connects Us: Park Cities Beauty Shop Closes After 50 Years

For more than 50 years, the women of the Park Cities, along with a few men, have turned to the Win Lee Beauty Salon to look and feel good.

Linda Muller, the salon's owner, starting working at the salon in 1964 before taking over ownership when the original owners passed away.

"I was a kid. I was 18. I had just finished high school, got married and finished beauty school," said Muller.

Muller held to a promise she made to the founders to not change a thing.

"I don't like change a lot," Muller said.

Cosmetologist Pat Potter has been there just as long as Muller.

"I came here, interviewed and went to work the next day," said Potter. "There's not another shop like it in town. Not another shop."

Together, they've provided the same service to many of the same customers for decades.

"We're standing in the same spot in all three pictures," said Potter, showing three photos from 1968, 2001 and 2017.

On July 29, however, a big change arrived. Citing declining sales and an aging customer base, Muller closed the salon for the last time.

In the salon's final days, customers, whom Muller said have become friends, stopped by for their final appointments, bringing gifts and sharing memories while fighting back tears.

"We don't just do hair, I guess ... It's going to be emotional - and it's going to be [emotional] right now," Muller said. "It's going to be very emotional, but we've had lots of friends here."

With the salon closed, Muller said she plans to spend more time with her children who have moved out of the area.
