Texas Connects Us: Meet the Beer-Making Pastor

Father Garrin Dickinson has no plans to quit his day job, but he's getting quite crafty with his favorite hobby.

Dickinson leads mass at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano.

He first discovered his interest in craft brews while studying abroad in England.

"I drank the beer and went, 'Holy! This is what beer is supposed to taste like,'" he said.

Dickinson was hooked.

"A good beer is just a good, Godly thing," he joked.

And that's an interesting choice of words for this man of the cloth.

"A lot of people are like, 'That's so cool.' But the reason they think it's cool is because they're like, 'A pastor making beer?' Oh, cause there's that little feeling that maybe it's a little naughty, when it's really not," Dickinson said. "Episcopalians aren't squeamish about alcohol anyway."

The demands of a church can be exhausting. Dickinson finds his escape making beer.

"I don't drink a lot, I just like the good stuff when I do," he joked.
