Texas A&M Student, Sigma Phi Epsilon Member, Dies at House

Investigators say a 20-year-old Texas A&M student and Sigma Phi Epsilon member has died at the fraternity house where he lived.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office says other members Tuesday afternoon found Matthew Hayes of Beaumont unresponsive in his bedroom.

Autopsy results are pending.

A sheriff's statement says Hayes attended a formal event Monday night in Bryan, then returned to the house and was last seen alive early Tuesday.

Other fraternity members believed Hayes was asleep, but he missed an afternoon function and that's when his body was discovered.

The national Sigma Phi Epsilon has expressed sympathy and said the organization was cooperating in the investigation.

It's the second A&M fraternity student death this year. Sigma Nu member Anton Gridnev died of an accidental drug overdose in August.
