Texas A&M University plans to open a new campus that will focus on research and development while also providing an education center that will allow students to earn an A&M degree from another school in the university system.
System Chancellor John Sharp on Monday announced a $150 million investment to launch the R&D campus at the former Bryan Air Base a few miles from the flagship campus. Another $38 million will be spent for the education center.
Sharp says R&D efforts will focus on moving ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace.
The education center, meanwhile, will boost tuition revenue and give students another path toward a college degree. Those not admitted to the flagship campus could take classes at the center to earn a degree from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi or another campus.
