Texas A&M Locates Missing Radioactive Package

Officials say there is no health threat as long as the material stays in the box

Texas A&M University has located a box containing radioactive research material after the FedEx package was missing since last month.

On Tuesday, school officials announced the package was located in an A&M secure hazardous material storage facility.

“Texas A&M University has located the radioactive source package that was missing.  It was found in one of our secure hazardous material storage facilities.  The package was unopened, undamaged and in its original shipping condition.  The package is safe for transportation and storage and the community was never in any danger,” said Shane H inckley, interim vice president for marketing and communications with Texas A&M University.

KBTX-TV reported Monday that records show someone signed for the package Aug. 21, but it never reached A&M's Radiation Safety Office in College Station.

The box was sent from the Science Engineering & Education Co. in the Minneapolis area.
