Texarkana Officer Death Trial Moved to Rockwall

A judge in Northeast Texas has moved the trial over the traffic-related death of a Texarkana police officer to a Dallas-area court.

Judge Bobby Lockhart on Thursday granted a defense request and moved the trial of 21-year-old Justin Sanders from Texarkana to Rockwall.

The Texarkana Gazette reports Sanders faces trial in March on a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Investigators say Officer William Sprague was outside of his patrol car and responding to a disturbance at a park when he was struck June 14 by a fleeing vehicle. The 30-year-old officer died the next day. Police later arrested Sanders, who faces up to life in prison if convicted.

The judge noted extensive media publicity in moving the trial to Rockwall, 20 miles east of Dallas.
