Teen's Lawsuit Over Injury During Arrest Settled

A lawsuit has been settled against a Central Texas police department, which had been accused of breaking the collarbone of a teenager during an incident at a Wal-Mart.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that Lorenzo Martinez and his mother had sued the city of Temple for the 2013 incident in which two officers injured him while he was questioned as the officers arrested another individual in front of the store.

A federal judge last week awarded Martinez and his mother $42,500 as part of the settlement of their lawsuit.

Temple City Attorney Kayla Landeros says the lawsuit was settled through mediation.

The two officers in the incident were fired. One was later reinstated while the other is appealing his firing.
