Teenager Hit by Vehicle in Fort Worth: Police

Neighbors say several changes are needed at the dangerous intersection in Fort Worth.

Police are investigating after a teenager was struck by a vehicle in Fort Worth.

During the height of rush hour traffic Monday, officers said a woman in her car struck a 13-year-boy as he tried to cross Alta Vista Road at Funnel Street.

People who live nearby say cars travel well over the 40 miles-per-hour speed limit.

“There’s been too many close calls,” said Michael Yancey, who lives near the accident. “I’ve seen it.”

The boy was flown by helicopter because traffic was backed up on Interstate 35W, according to police.

Officers said the boy did not have serious injuries and no charges were expected for the driver.

But neighbors said something needs to change along Alta Vista, especially since there are several nearby schools, including Timber Creek High School.

“In my eyes, this intersection right here, it’s dangerous for the school kids that come through here,” said Theo Williams, who lives near the accident.

There are ‘yield for pedestrian’ signs along Alta Vista at the crosswalks, but neighbors said they would like to see stop lights, flashing lights or even more police presence to help slow down traffic.

“It’s almost like a crapshoot,” said Yancey. “You just hope you can get out without getting hit or the kids can cross without getting hit.”
