Teen Struck, Killed Outside Dallas' Bryan Adams High School

A teen boy died Tuesday after he was hit by a car near Bryan Adams High School in Dallas.

Jerry Nguyen, 16, was hit after he was dropped off on Tuesday morning.

Investigators said a female driver dropped off Nguyen and a friend who attends Adams High School at the school in the 2100 block of Millmar Drive. The driver of the green Volkswagen Beetle then attempted to make a U-turn and ended up striking Nguyen, police said.

The other teen was not injured.

Nguyen was a sophomore at Townview High School, where he was enrolled in the science and engineering program. He was supposed to catch a connecting bus to his school.

His mother and aunt went the crash scene Tuesday night and laid down flowers and his favorite snacks. Christina Le, his aunt, said Nguyen and his mother were best friends.

"Just yesterday, she was asking him, 'What kind of car would like? You should start learning how to drive soon so you can drive yourself to school,'" she said. "That was just yesterday, and now he is gone."

Police continue to investigate Nguyen's death. Police said the driver is cooperating with investigators.

Grief counselors were at both schools all day Tuesday.

Friends and teachers have set up a memorial fund to the family with funeral expenses and create a scholarship in his name.
