Teen Sends Get Well Soon Letter to Romo

Tony Romo's biggest fan sent a letter of encouragement to the quarterback after learning of his season-ending back surgery.

The news of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback's surgery has Cowboys Nation abuzz - especially the quarterback's biggest fan, Cheyenne Knapp.

Romo visited Knapp, 13, in her Children's Medical Center Dallas hospital bed weeks ago while the Greenville teen was still recovering from MRSA, a dangerous staph infection she developed after a hip injury.

Prior to the visit, Romo sent Knapp a personally autographed football around Thanksgiving when he learned of her situation.

"I know Cheyenne's story", Romo said to NBC DFW the day of his hospital visit. "She has loving parents and great people around her. She has an infectious personality and it rubs off on everyone, and it was great to get to meet her and say 'hi.'"

On Friday night, Knapp recounted Romo's words of encouragement to her.

"He said that I could do it, I could get through this, [and to] be brave," Cheyenne Knapp said.

In the days since they met, the quarterback and the kid have traded places, in a way.

Romo went in to the hospital.

And on Thursday, the day after Christmas, Cheyenne Knapp went home.

"When I found out I was really excited," Knapp said of finally returning to her own bed after seven weeks in a hospital one.

So Cheyenne Knapp was home Friday when she learned of her favorite player's plight.

"I was in here doing something today and she said, 'Did you know Tony Romo just had surgery today?'" Candace Knapp, Cheyenne's mother recounted to NBC DFW. "And then I heard her ask her dad, 'Well, who's the backup quarterback?'"

Now that she has become familiar with Kyle Orton, Romo's backup who will start Sunday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cheyenne is offering some words of encouragement for her favorite player in the form of a 'Get Well' letter.

"You can do this Romo. I believe in you. And I know you're strong with a great heart. Get well soon, Cheyenne Knapp #3," the letter reads.
