Teen Handed 10 Years for Intoxication Manslaughter

A man convicted of intoxication manslaughter has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a deadly wreck that killed a 38-year-old Johnson County mother.

A Tarrant County jury deliberated less than than two hours Friday before sentencing 19-year-old Brandon Burchfield. He was also fined $10,000 for the collision.

On Thursday, the jury convicted Burchfield of intoxication manslaughter in Nogaelda Zavala's 2008 death. Burchfield was 17 at the time and had a 0.17 blood-alcohol level, more than twice the legal limit when the wreck occurred.
