Teen Dies After Falling from Roof of Car in Amarillo

Authorities say a 16-year-old in Amarillo has died after falling from the roof of car when the driver hit the brakes.

Police say Johnny Joe Lozano, who suffered a head injury, died Thursday after being thrown off the car on Oct. 19.

When police responded to the scene, they learned that Lozano and two other teens had been riding on the exterior of the vehicle. No one besides Lozano was injured.

Sgt. Brent Barbee said the teens appeared to be intentionally riding on the exterior of the car for fun.

He tells the Amarillo Globe-News, "I can't stress how dangerous this is. I see it depicted on television like it's harmless behavior and it's not."

Police are investigating the incident. No charges have been field.
