Teen Charged in Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old Garland Boy

A North Texas teenager is facing a murder charge Monday after another teen was fatally shot in the head at a Garland park Friday.

Garland police said 17-year-old Scott Lynn Litton has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Miguel Esquivel.

Investigators said Esquivel was originally taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Garland at about 5 p.m. Friday before being flown by CareFlite to Children's Hospital in Dallas where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives with the Garland police said Esquivel was shot in the head during a fight at Embree Park on the 1500 block of Dairy Road, but did not elaborate into what led to the altercation.

Following an interview with witnesses, police said Litton surfaced as a person of interest in the case. After speaking with detectives, police said Litton surrendered and was arrested. He was charged with murder and is currently being held in the Garland Detention Center on $500,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking for anyone with any information in the case to contact the detective at 972-205-1667
