The Arlington School Board turned down an incentive program to give teacher resignation bonuses.
Trustees thought the $2,500 payout could become too costly, according to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Instead, the district will go ahead with plans to layoff 190 teachers and 200 other workers to offset $15.3 million in its budget. The district was already facing a $35 million reduction in funding as well as a $13 million deficit, the paper reported.
In Weatherford, the district is letting go 29 first-year teachers go, according to a report in the Weatherford Democrat.
WISD said there is nothing in writing, but the United Educators Association confirms probationary teachers received notices asking them to resign.
