Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Relationship With Student

A Dallas high school teacher continued on leave Saturday, following her arrest on charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with one of her students.

Lesley Ann Sharp, 24, an English teacher at Hillcrest High School, was arrested Thursday and released on bond from the Collin County Jail on Friday.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Sharp was arrested on charges including an improper relationship between educator and student, possession or promotion of child pornography, tampering with physical evidence and perjury.

It was not known if Sharp had an attorney. Her mother, Rhonda Sharp, said the family had no comment.

Sharp denied having sexual contact with the boy in a written statement to the school district.

Dallas Independent School District spokesman Jon Dahlander said Friday Sharp was placed on leave pending the outcome of the criminal case.

Police documented thousands of text messages, some including explicit photos, they exchanged between May and July. Police say Sharp had sex with the boy more than 25 times in her car, her apartment and his apartment when his parents were not home.

"Sharp engaged in the behaviors through a belief that she and student would never get caught," an affidavit filed in the case said.

Sharp had synced her iPhone with her school laptop. She had deleted some directories on it before handing it over to investigators, but the information was found elsewhere on her hard drive.

Three days before her arrest, Sharp was told there was a pending investigation. She then instructed the boy to delete all their photos and messages, according to court documents.

Hillcrest High principal Ronald Jones informed parents and alumni in a letter. "The teacher was new to our staff this year and is believed to have had this relationship with only one student," he wrote. "We are obviously stunned and saddened by this news but wanted to make sure that you were aware of it." Jones said Sharp would not be returning to the school.

Sharp was certified by the Texas Board of Education in 2012 and hired as a high school teacher in October.
