TABC Announces Spring Break Alcohol Stings

Sting to take place along I-35 toward Gulf Coast

Texas liquor agents will be checking businesses along Interstate 35 to make sure they do not sell alcohol to underage students during spring break.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission on Thursday announced the stings along I-35, as well as other major roads leading to the Gulf Coast.

TABC says obviously underage teenagers, working with the agency, will be going into retail locations and attempting to buy alcohol. The legal drinking age in Texas is 21.

An employee who sells alcohol to a minor can be charged with a Class A misdemeanor. Violators can be fined as much as $4,000 and get up to a year in jail.

Business violators can receive an administrative penalty that could include a fine, suspension or cancellation of permits to sell alcohol.
