Suspected Killer Captured by Fort Worth Police: Officials

Suspect Found Not Far From Intense Search

A suspected murder suspect is in-custody after a week long search, a concentrated manhunt and ultimately a car crash with police.

Fort Worth Police say Kristun Madewell was apprehended shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday in Crowley along FM 1187 and Horn Street.

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Tracey Knight says fugitive officers were tipped off to a possible location where Madewell was staying near East Main Street and 1187 in Crowley. As officers waited for Crowley Police to assist them, Madewell, a male driver and female passenger got into a truck and headed south on 1187.

“The suspects in the vehicle obviously found out that our officers were following and that’s when they rammed our officer in an attempt to get away,” Cpl. Knight said.

After ramming the undercover vehicle, the truck the three suspects were in crashed into a brick wall fence at the back of a neighborhood. The three suffered minor injuries, as did the officer in the undercover vehicle.

“They were tenacious, they never gave up and even when the suspect was violently trying to get away and ram our officers,” Cpl. Knight said. “They stayed with them, put their own lives in danger and were able to take a murder suspect into custody.”

Madewell’s location was not far from where Fort Worth Police, Crowley Police, Burleson Police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a massive manhunt on Wednesday night.

“Two days later, I’m surprised he was still here,” said Friday Futuna, who lives in the neighborhood near the crash and who saw the police officers following Madewell.

Police believed by Thursday morning he was already out of that area. The sheriff’s office said search dogs tracked Madewell near Huguley Hospital in south Fort Worth. The hospital is near Interstate 35-W and FM 1187.

“As you know we had over 100 officers searching, we cordoned off the entire area for most of the night and we’ve continued the search this entire time as well as Crowley police department,” Cpl. Knight said. “Honestly we don’t know if he has there the whole time or if he was picked up and brought to this location (where officers were watching Madewell).”

Madewell is suspected in the shooting death of Christopher Ortega, 29, in a south Fort Worth home on Dec. 12 in the early morning hours. Details on a motive for the shooting have not been released. Four other people were in the home at the time of the shooting, including two children.

A Fort Worth Police report on Friday indicated that another person has also been arrested for the homicide. Milisha Moore, 31, of Joshua was arrested Wednesday afternoon and has been charged with murder and evading arrest. She is currently in the Mansfield Jail being held on $100,750 bond.

On Thursday the Joshua ISD placed all of its schools in a “soft” lockdown as Madewell had connections to several schools.

Officers attempted to arrest Madewell on Wednesday in Johnson County, but he was able to evade arrest. He then stole a truck, which led police to the Bicentennial Park area in Crowley.

Madewell will likely face additional charges for Friday morning’s incident. The still unidentified driver will face assault on a police officer charges. The female passenger may also face charges. If the individuals were harboring Madewell and knew he was wanted by police, additional charges could be filed.
