Suspect in South By Southwest Crash Indicted

The Travis County grand jury indicted Rashad Owens Monday on one capital murder count and four counts of murder for the crash that killed four people at Austin's South By Southwest music festival in March.

Authorities have said Owens, 21, accelerated through the crowd March 13, killing two people and leaving more than 20 injured. Two others later died of their injuries. Police say Owens was fleeing a patrolman and driving down a closed street when the crash happened.

Owens also faces 24 aggravated assault counts.

The Killeen man remains in the Travis County Jail with bonds totaling $5.5 million. A court hearing is scheduled for June 3.

Online jail records list no attorney for Owens.
