Suspect in Fatal Shooting of East Texas Police K9 Arrested

An East Texas man suspected of fatally shooting a police dog following a traffic stop has been captured in the Dallas area.

Michael Paul Koch of Grand Saline was caught Saturday morning in Garland.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office announced Koch's arrest on warrants for evading arrest and interference with a police service animal by killing.

The case involves Tuesday's slaying of a K-9 named Ogar after a constable stopped a vehicle near Lindale, 80 miles southeast of Dallas. Investigators say Koch was in the vehicle, ran into some woods, Ogar followed and the constable heard gunfire.

Koch also faces an evading arrest warrant in Van Zandt County. Further details weren't immediately available.

A memorial service was planned Saturday afternoon for Ogar at First Baptist Church in Lindale.
