Suspect Named in Selwyn Prep Fire

Man named a suspect by Denton Fire Marshal

Investigators have named a person of interest in the fire at the Selwyn College Preparatory School in Denton, according to a report in the Denton Record Chronicle.

The school burned down in January and investigators said a test of carpet and other rubble indicated a flammable liquid was used to fuel the blaze that was originally thought to be electrical in nature.

Police are now talking to Luther Joe Romines, 43, about the fire.  Romines is a maintenance man who was living in an apartment at the school.

He is not facing any charges related to the fire, but was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon on school property.

According to the DRC report, Fire Marshal Rick Jones confirmed Romines is a suspect in the fire, but had no further comment.

Romines is currently free after posting $30,000 bail.
