Man Stabbed, Arrested Following Arlington Crime Spree: Police

Man stabbed after attempting to enter Arlington man's home

A man is in custody after an alleged crime spree Tuesday evening in Arlington that began with a carjacking and ended with the man stabbed during a home invasion, police say.

The man, whose identity has not been released, forced a driver out of a minivan at about 6:45 p.m. on the 4600 block of Little Road, police said.

He then drove to an Exxon station on the 4400 block of Kelly Elliott Road, where he stole gas from another customer, police said.

Surveillance video obtained by NBC 5 shows the minivan pulling up near a man who is pumping gas. The alleged suspect gets out of the minivan, then starts a fist fight with the man pumping gas.

That man runs away to get help, while the suspect begins to steal his gas.

The man sped away in the minivan and crashed a block away on the Interstate 20 service road near Park Springs Boulevard, police said.

After crashing, the man ran across I-20 to the 7-Eleven on the 4200 block of Park Springs Boulevard and attempted to steal another vehicle, police said.

Police said from there, the suspect went around the corner to a home on Fort Hunt Drive and forced his way inside.

Brian Hackney owns the home and told NBC 5 he was inside his home carving pumpkins with his daughter when the man barged in. Hackney said he took one of his carving knives and stabbed the intruder in the back.

"I was personally thinking, 'What are you doing in my house?'" said Brian Hackney. "I just went into protection mode. Ladies say 'mama bear,' but it was 'papa bear' here."

Police said nobody was seriously injured in the alleged crime spree, and the man was transported to a North Texas hospital in police custody. His condition is not known.

Police are not releasing the suspect's name until they've spoken to more witnesses and have had the opportunity to perform photo lineups.

Anyone who may have dealt with the man is asked to call Arlington police at 817-274-4444.
