Officers Called In After Surprise J Cole Concert Creates Crowds

More than 3,000 people descended on the House of Blues in downtown Dallas after a surprise concert was announced on Twitter.

Artist J Cole had given clues on social media about a surprise appearance somewhere in Dallas.

The cost of admission – $1.

"He held the location up until 4 p.m. today, so everyone was just kind of running around Dallas not knowing where it was," said Mitchell Parker, one of the many J Cole fans waiting in the street outside.

"And so when he dropped it, everyone just stormed here."

More than six-dozen officers responded to maintain crowd and traffic control. Police told NBC 5 they were not given any advance notice of the concert.

"We're hoping everyone leaves peacefully," said sergeant Cyrus Zafrani. "The concert is already sold out, so we can get people out of there the safest way possible, that's our goal."

Officials said 1,600 people were able to get tickets and were allowed inside hours before the doors were set to open. That news did not deter the thousands of fans outside who hoped for a chance to find room.

"It's not like I regret coming, cause it was worth a shot. I'm a big fan of his music," said James Werm.

The surprise concert was a part of J Cole's "A Dollar and a Dream" tour. No injuries or arrests were reported.

All roads in downtown Dallas reopened just after 8:30 Sunday evening.
