‘Superhero' Officer Amazed By Support for Sick Father

Fort Worth Police Officer Damon Cole says he has been amazed by the support he has received after his father was hospitalized.

Cole has worked for three years to bring joy to children battling illnesses by dressing as various superheros and visiting them at children's hospitals or their homes.  He is also known for dressing in costume to visit schools in the region to help promote a positive image of police officers.

"I reached out via Facebook to all the people that follow what I do and I just asked for people to pray because I don't want to lose my dad," Cole said.

Cole's father was hospitalized unexpectedly Saturday after he fell ill Thursday.

"We learned he had a lot of blood around his brain and the blood was pushing his brain to the left side of his head," Cole said.

Charles Cole underwent brain surgery Monday at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth and is now recovering.

"He really worried us because he wasn't able to talk we really thought we might lose him," Cole said.

Officer Cole simply asked for prayers for his father on his Facebook page, and Cole says the law enforcement community and others have rallied around his family.

"It was very tough," Cole said, "I don't like going to people asking for help, but I definitely wanted a lot of people to pray for my dad because he's an extension of me and I'm not ready to lose him."

As Charles Cole continues to recover, the family asks for nothing more than continued prayers.

"It's just amazing the messages, I can't keep up with all my messages on Facebook," Cole said, "I've gotten so many just saying we're praying for your dad."
