According to the Plano Independent School District, the students were walking through the Tom Muehlenbeck Center parking lot toward Renner Middle School when they were struck by the BBs.
The group of students had been taking part in a mentoring program at nearby Brinker Elementary and were returning to their campus when someone in a small, silver sedan fired an unknown number of shots from a BB gun in their direction.
Two of the students were hit; both students suffered only minor injuries and were treated and released by the Plano Fire Department.
School administrators said they are working with witnesses, safety and security personnel and the Plano Police Department to investigate the shooting.
No other information about the incident or investigation has been released.
District officials said there will be additional police patrols for the remainder of the day and during dismissal.
