Student Attempts Suicide at Lake Dallas School

Two other students in school district committed suicide

Lake Dallas school officials say a middle school student attempted suicide on campus Thursday.

Lake Dallas Superintendent Gayle Stinson said the student is in stable condition at an area hospital.

Two students in the district -- a Lake Dallas High School student and a Lake Dallas Middle School student -- have killed themselves in the past month.

Students, parents and other members of the community gathered at Lake Dallas High School for a prayer vigil Thursday night.

Parent Arcy Tarango said the incidents are difficult to comprehend.

"I've lived here 15 years, and this has really never happened," she said.

"I mean you ask yourself, 'What is going on?'" Tarango said. "No one really has the answers."

Tarango said the situation has given her pause.

"It make me feel more alert to where I need to pay attention more of my awareness of my child," she said.

The Lake Dallas Independent School District said it is taking steps to help both staff and students cope with the losses.

Lake Dallas High School will also hold a community support panel for students, staff and parents on Tuesday. Experts will discuss how to deal with handling crisis and sudden death.
