Pop-up thunderstorms brought strong wind gusts and heavy downpours to parts of the Metroplex Monday evening.

The storms began to form north of Downtown Dallas just before 6 p.m., causing several roads to be temporarily flooded.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to The Taylor apartment building on the 3100 block of Carlisle Street in Uptown, where a large portion of siding collapsed from a parking garage.

"It sounded like a car crash at first," a witness named Michael said.

No injuries were reported. Dallas Fire-Rescue used canine search dogs to confirm that there was nobody beneath the rubble.

A Time Warner Cable van can be seen somewhat buried in the debris. The worker was inside the apartment complex at the time the siding came crashing down.
Cars are being allowed to leave the parking garage, but no one is being allowed to re-enter to park inside the garage.
Fencing has been put up around the debris to keep people out and to protect people if more of the siding comes crashing down.
Dallas Fire Rescue says its urban search and rescue team did not find any structural concerns with the garage, or the adjacent buildings.

Engineers and construction crews were back at the building on Tuesday morning to assess how to clean-up and why it failed. Most residents feel reassured the garage is safe.

"I think it'll be okay, I mean since they said they have engineers coming I feel safe that it will be okay in the future," said Maddie Espinosa.

The storms also knocked over a billboard near the intersection of North Central Expressway and Fitzhugh Avenue. It landed on several cars parked in the parking lot of a naerby Best Western motel.

The highest rainfall report in Tarrant County was 3 inches on the Trinity Trails near the Riverbend neighborhood, the National Weather Service said. In Dallas County, the highest rainfall report was 2.05 inches near Trinity River Greenbelt Park, according to the NWS.

More than 30,000 customers were without power at one point Monday evening in Dallas and Tarrant counties, Oncor reported. As of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, about 4,000 North Texans remained without power.

Additional spotty thunderstorms are possible Tuesday in North Texas, according to the NBC 5 Weather Experts.
