Stop Car Thieves In Their Tracks With Free VIN Etchings

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department is offering free VIN etching this month.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department is warning motorists to watch their cars.

The department's Auto Theft Task Force is aiming to educate car owners about preventative measures. Deputies say people should hide their belongings, take their keys and lock their vehicle doors.

To help prevent car owners from becoming crime victims, the task force is offering free VIN etchings at various grocery stores in Dallas County in July.

Here is a list of locations and times:
 

July 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kroger at Interstate 30 and Beltline Road in Garland

July 16, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kroger at 752 Wynnewood and Illinois in Dallas

July 23, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kroger at 4017 14th St. in Plano

July 30, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kroger at 3600 Gus Thomasson in Mesquite
