The state has rested in the North Texas trial of a man accused of raping his former neighbor on a deer-skinning device and chaining her to a bed after kidnapping her.
Then jurors left the courtroom, and Jeffrey Allan Maxwell told the judge he was choosing not to testify. When his attorneys asked if Maxwell wanted them to present any evidence, he answered, "no."
Defense attorneys will rest their case when jurors return from lunch Tuesday.
The 59-year-old faces up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
His ex-neighbor has testified that Maxwell kidnapped her last March and drove to his Corsicana home 50 miles south of Dallas. She was rescued 12 days later when authorities went to question him about her disappearance.
