Spring Break Staycations Head to the Lake

Camp sites are packed at Loyd Park as families prepare for a fun weekend

Families enjoying Spring Break are packing camp sites by Joe Pool Lake.

Both Lynn Creek and Loyd parks in Grand Prairie are expected to be packed in the coming days.

Sienna Pendergrass, 6, has a packed schedule during her camping trip this weekend.

"Roast marshmallows, go fishing, ride bikes, play with my toys," she listed.

Pendergrass said she already uncovered a shark tooth at the lake.

On Friday morning, lots of visitors enjoyed their time on the water kayaking, feeding the ducks, and simply unwinding.

"It’s fantastic, three kids running around, hike, fish, camp, get on the boat, do whatever they want, it’s great," said Watauga Resident Ryan Rusnak.

Lake Parks Superintendent Bob McGlothlin said this is their first major weekend of the year.

"I’ve got 221 campsites and eight cabins and everything is going to be full, so it’s going to be a pretty good crowd this weekend," he said. "If you’re going to come to the parks this weekend, you’ve got to be extra careful for kids running across the street. So you have to remember to obey the speed limits and obey all the rules."

McGlothlin said this is the park's 25th anniversary.
