Spirit Passengers at D/FW Airport Not Experiencing Cancellations

Spirit Airlines is doing damage control after a massive passenger riot Monday at a Florida airport when the airline suddenly canceled nine flights and left hundreds of passengers stranded.

Cell phone video captured pushing, shoving and fights breaking out at the ticket counter at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The cancellations were the result of a labor dispute with the Spirit pilots, and so far passengers at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport have not been affected Tuesday.

Spirit is the third-largest carrier at D/FW Airport.

Inside Terminal E, the Spirit ticketing counter was moving smoothly Tuesday afternoon and quite busy, but it was certainly nothing like what happened in Florida.

Passengers told NBC 5 that they were skeptical when they arrived at D/FW Airport, but they were pleasantly surprised at how everything was running on time.

"So far, so good. Very clear, very nice, very quiet here. We are glad we live in Dallas," said Belkys Camps, whose mother was flying on Spirit to Florida.

"I'm flying to England, and I'm going to Orlando now, and she (grandmother) wanted to make sure that I look at every single flight because it might be canceled," said Spirit passenger Dillon Brendt.

Spirit issued a statement to NBC News, saying, "We are shocked and saddened to see the videos of what took place at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. These pilots have put their quest for a new contract ahead of getting customers to their destinations and the safety of their fellow Spirit team members."

D/FW Airport officials say it's a good idea to check your flight's status before you head to the airport. Check Spirit flight status on the airline's website.
