Speed Across Hunt Hill Bridge to be 35 MPH

Speed set to 40 between east levee and Stemmons

The speed limit for the extension of Woodall Rodgers Freeway across the Trinity River over the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge will be much slower than the average freeway.

The section over the river will be just 35 mph and between the east levee and Stemmons Freeway it will be just 40 mph.

The speed limit on the rest of Woodall Rodgers Freeway is 50 mph now.

The new limits are the result of a traffic safety study.

There will be a stop light at Beckley Avenue on the western end of the bridge, so faster speeds there could be dangerous.

The Dallas City Council is due to vote on the speed limits March 28. The new bridge is due to open to traffic March 29.
