Federal prosecutors say a campaign worker has admitted she paid voters to ensure they cast ballots in favor of school board candidates in South Texas.
Diana Balderas Castaneda of Donna pleaded guilty Monday in McAllen to one count of vote-buying. Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Balderas paid for votes in the November 2012 school board election in Donna.
Authorities did not say how much was paid to voters or how many were approached with payments.
Balderas' sentencing is scheduled for July.
Prosecutors say she campaigned on behalf of four school board candidates. She acknowledged that at least two other campaign workers also paid voters.
Another campaign worker, 44-year-old Rebecca Gonzalez of Donna, pleaded guilty to vote-buying in February and is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
