The administrator of a South Texas hospice has been charged with capital murder in the death of a 96-year-old man who authorities say had left her his estate.
Monica Melissa Patterson of Harlingen is being held on a $1 million bond following her arraignment Thursday. Authorities also have charged 37-year-old Angel Mario Garza. He's also being held on bond of $1 million, charged with murder.
A criminal complaint says Patterson and Garza went to the home of Martin Knell in January where a caretaker for Knell heard him having an argument with Patterson.
The caretaker, who worked for Patterson, later found Knell dead and she eventually contacted Texas Rangers.
The 48-year-old Patterson is the administrator of Comfort House Services in McAllen. Her attorney said she had nothing to do with the death.
