‘Soupman' Serves Dallas Homeless

His name is David Timothy, but everyone just knows him as "The Soupman."

Timothy started Soupmobile in 2003 and in that time they've served more than 5,000 meals. They thought that was a lot, but this year the Soupmobile will serve more than 200,000 meals.

The Soupman brings passion to every second of his day, serving 600 to 800 meals to the homeless in Dallas through his charity. He said it's about making a connection with those they serve.

"Homeless people are used to being shunned, pushed aside," he said. "We use all of these tools to be a door, to make a personal connection with them. that's what it's all about."

It's part of our NBC 5 campaign called A Home for the Holidays, but the Soupmobile is in action 365 days per year.

"We ignore the holidays," He said. "Our attitude is the homeless have to eat that day, so we feed them.”

This is not the prince serving the pauper, as the Soupmobile surroundings are humble. Timothy said he's probably the only executive whose chair is held together with duct tape.

"I keep it to remind me it's not about me," he said. "It's about the people I serve."

And still, it's Timothy who wants to say Thank you.

"We get to get up every day knowing that we are going to make a difference in somebody's life," he said. "And what a privilege that God let's us do that."
