Soldier Surprises Sons With Holiday Homecoming

Christmas comes early for two kids in Denton

Christmas came early for two brothers in Denton.

Their father, Staff Sgt. Philip Grant, found a way to give his sons exactly what they wanted this year.

Grant surprised Micah and Caleb at Wilson Elementary School's holiday assembly on Thursday.

He said homecomings are special "because I want them to know that no matter how many times I go down range, that I am always going to come home."

Fresh in from Qatar, Grant spent the previous night at a hotel so he could surprise them.

He is in the middle of his third tour. While not the longest -- which was 15 months -- each deployment gets tougher, he said.

"I miss them terribly," Grant said.

He will be home with his family for two weeks before heading back overseas.

"It's a sacrifice I must make," Grant said. "It's a sacrifice I will continue to take because I know my family is safe."
