Six Displaced After Fire Started By Resident in North Dallas

Police have one man in custody who admitted to starting the fire

A man is in custody after admitting to starting a fire that displaced six people at an apartment complex early Sunday.

At 4:19 a.m., Dallas Fire responded to the Garden Homes of Preston place located on the 5800 block of Harvest Hill Rd.

When they arrived, they found a two-story condo on fire with heavy fire coming from the unit on the first floor.

Firefighters had to rescue several residents who got stuck after fire blocked the stairwell. Fortunately, all residents were able to get out safely.

Two second floor units sustained significant damage and displaced a total of six residents.

A 34-year-old man was taken into custody after he admitted to using an accelerant to start the fire. His identity has not been released and he is being charged with felony 1 arson at this time.

No injuries were reported from this fire.
